RENO, Nev., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Parker McLachlin equaled a course record with a 10-under 62 Friday and moved four shots in front after two rounds of the Reno-Tahoe Open.
Michelle Wie, meanwhile, needed nine shots to play the par-4 eighth hole, shot an 80 and missed the cut by nine shots. Wie was trying to become the first woman in modern PGA Tour history to survive the 36-hole cut and she had endured criticism for again attempting to test her game against the men.
She wound up beating 12 players, including one-time world No. 1 David Duval.
McLachlin has finished no better than fifth during his two full years on the tour and was 137th on the money list in 2007.
Former Masters champion Larry Mize had a 66 over the Montreux Golf and Country Club course to share second place at 134 with Brian Davis, Nick Flanagan and John Merrick. Bob Estes and Harrison Frazar were at 135.
