ATLANTA, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Jeff Suppan and two relievers combined on a five-hitter Friday and the Milwaukee Brewers got two third-inning homers to overwhelm Atlanta 9-0.

The Brewers halted a five-game losing skid. They had lost six out of seven after charging into contention in the National League Central with an eight-game winning streak.

Suppan (6-7) allowed all five Atlanta hits over seven innings. Brian Shouse and Guillermo Mota worked a perfect inning each to finish off the shutout.

The Brewers already had a 3-0 lead going into the third, during which Prince Fielder hit a solo homer and Mike Cameron had a two-run shot.

A throwing error by third baseman Omar Infante in the eighth accounted for two runs during a three-run inning.

Atlanta starter Chuck James (2-4) lasted only 2 2/3 innings, giving up six runs on six hits.
