LOS ANGELES, July 31 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired disgruntled Boston outfielder Manny Ramirez in a three-team deal before Thursday's trading deadline.
Outfielder Jason Bay goes to Boston from Pittsburgh and the Pirates received outfielder Brandon Moss and pitcher Craig Hansen from the Red Sox and third baseman Andy LaRoche and pitcher Bryan Morris from the Dodgers.
The blockbuster deal was confirmed by team officials at Dodger Stadium during a news conference an hour after the 4 p.m. Eastern Time non-waiver trade deadline passed. The deal helps the Dodgers counter the thunder of the LA Angels of Anaheim, who swept the reigning World Series champion Red Sox in three games at Fenway Park this week. The Angels acquired slugger Mark Teixeira from Atlanta Wednesday.
Ramirez, a 12-time all-star and MVP of the 2004 World Series, told ESPN Deportes this week he wanted out of Boston.
He is batting .299 with 20 homers and 68 RBI this season.
