Sorenstam again critical of Michelle Wie

BERKSHIRE, England, July 30 (UPI) -- Annika Sorestam has again criticized Michelle Wie's decision to complete in a man's PGA golf tournament.

Wie skipped this week's Women's British Open in Berkshire, England, and decided to play in the PGA's Reno-Tahoe Open in Nevada.

Both events start on Thursday morning.

"You know, I really don't know why Michelle continues to do this," Sorenstam told Golfweek Magazine on Tuesday. "I mean, we have a major this week, and if you can't qualify for a major, I don't see any reason why you should play with the men."

Wie has played poorly in seven previous appearances in PGA tournaments and was disqualified from the State Farm Classic in Springfield, Ill., on July 18 after she failed to sign her second round scorecard.

The 18-year-old Hawaiian also has not played successfully in a women's event.

Sorenstam, a former world No. 1, is retiring after the 2008 season and the Women's British Open will be her final major.
