Radwanska opens defense of Stockholm title

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 29 (UPI) -- Defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska cruised to a straight-set victory Tuesday at the $145,000 Nordic Light Open tennis tournament in Sweden.

Radwanska, ranked 10th in the world and seeded first at the Nordic Light Open, had no trouble in beating Nathalie Dechy 6-2, 6-3 in her first-round match at the hard-court tournament.

While No. 8-seeded Maria Erakovic fell 6-3, 6-4 to Maria Elena Camerin, three other seeded players joined Radwanska with solid straight-set wins. No. 3-seeded Katarina Srebotnik topped Anna Lapushchenkova 6-2, 6-1; fourth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki eliminated Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-4; and fifth-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues, swept past Sandra Roma 6-3, 6-1.

In other first-round matches Tuesday Virginia Ruano Pascual defeated Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 and Vera Dushevina topped Lucie Safarova 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Also posting wins were Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, Mariya Koryttseva and Johanna Larsson.
