BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., July 28 (UPI) -- Two-time British Open champion Greg Norman has turned down an invitation to play in the season's final major golf tournament, the PGA Championship.

Norman, 53, tied for sixth in May at the Senior PGA Championship where the winning score was plus-seven. Norman was just one shot back with two holes to go, but double-bogeyed the 17th en route to finishing at 10-over par.

Norman played in the British Open and the Senior British Open. He was in contention all weekend at the Open Championship, before finishing tied for third behind repeat winner Padraig Harrington.

It was after his Senior British Open performance that Norman was offered a spot in the PGA Championship which starts August 7.

Norman is expected to play this week at the U.S. Senior Open. But there are no other tournaments listed on his schedule for the remainder of the year.
