MLB: Minnesota 7, Chicago White Sox 0

MINNEAPOLIS, July 28 (UPI) -- Kevin Slowey pitched a six-hit shutout and Denard Span had his first career homer Monday to give the Minnesota Twins a 7-0 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Slowey (7-7) walked one while winning for the fifth time in his last six decisions.

Justin Morneau had a two-run homer and three RBI, and Brendan Harris had a two-run double for Minnesota, which moved within 1 1/2 games of Chicago for first place in the AL Central Division.

Losing pitcher Mark Buehrle (8-9) allowed five runs on eight hits through five innings.

A.J. Pierzynski had two hits for the White Sox.
