
NEW YORK, July 25 (UPI) -- Mike Pelfrey extended his unbeaten streak to 11 games with a seven-inning effort Friday, lifting the New York Mets over St. Louis 7-2.
New York's lead in the NL East was expanded to two games over both Philadelphia and Florida.
Pelfrey (9-6) has had seven wins and four no-decisions during his current streak. He allowed a run on seven hits and struck out five, boosting the Mets to their third straight victory.
Argenis Reyes had a two-run triple in the fourth to give the Mets a 3-0 lead and Carlos Delgado added a two-run homer as part of a three-run fifth.
The loss went to Mitchell Boggs (3-2), who was touched for six runs on eight hits in 4 1/3.
St. Louis has dropped five in a row, its longest losing streak of the year.
