
PORTOROZ, Slovenia, July 25 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Maria Kirilenko lost her quarterfinal match in straight sets Friday to No. 8 seed Sara Errani at the Banka Koper Open in Portoroz, Slovenia.
The scores were 6-1, 7-5.
The Italian Errani took the first set by maintaining her quick dominance. In the second, she served for the match at 5-3 but her Russian opponent rallied to save six match points and pulled into a 5-5 tie, but Errani captured the next two games to win the match.
Kirilenko committed 51 unforced errors and double-faulted seven times.
Third-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark trounced Russian Vera Dushevina 6-0, 6-1; No. 4 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain was an easy 6-3, 6-2 victor against unseeded Elena Bovina of Russia; and German Julia Goerges downed Croatia's Petra Martic 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
In Saturday's semis, Wozniacki faces Errani and Medina Garrigues battles Goerges.
Sunday's champion will claim a winner's check of $22,900.
