BEIING, China, July 25 (UPI) -- Boxing

Gold medals to be awarded: 11

Dates of competition: Aug. 9-24

Cuban boxers won five gold medals, two silvers and a bronze in Athens -- a total that might be difficult to duplicate this time.

The Americans hope to do much better than their effort of four years ago, which saw them come home with just two medals. Andre Ward won a gold in the light-heavyweight division, the United States' first boxing gold since 1996.

Current world champions Rau'shee Warren (flyweight) and Demetrius Andrade (welterweight) will lead the American squad. Warren will be the first U.S. boxer in 32 years to take part in two Olympics. He lost in the first round in Athens at the age of 17.
