CARSON, Calif., July 24 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Jelena Jankovic reached the quarterfinals of the East-West Bank Classic Thursday while No. 3 seed Anna Chakvetadze was eliminated.

Jankovic recorded a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Melinda Czink, setting up a quarterfinal meeting with Nadia Petrova. Petrova, the fifth seed, advanced by ousting Vera Zvonareva 6-4, 7-5.

Chakvetadze, who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon this month and who has one tournament victory to her credit in 2008, was surprised by Sybille Bammer 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

Bammer will next meet Flavia Pennetta, who defeated Ai Sugiyama 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Eighth-seeded Victoria Azarenka earned a quarterfinal berth with a win over Samantha Stosur 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
