ANAHEIM, Calif., July 23 (UPI) -- The LA Angels overcome a short start by Jered Weaver Tuesday and rode Jeff Mathis's two-RBI, two-run performance to a 3-2 win over the Cleveland Indians.
Weaver gave up two runs on three hits over three innings. The right-hander threw 77 pitches before leaving the game with tightness in his back. He's listed as day-to-day.
The win went to veteran lefty Darren Oliver (4-1), who pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 41st save as the Angels won for the sixth time in seven games.
Grady Sizemore opened the game with a home run for Cleveland. Franklin Guiterrez tripled in Kelly Shoppach to give the Indians a 2-0 lead in the second.
The Angels tied it up in the bottom of the second on Mathis's RBI groundout and an RBI hit by Reggie Willits. Mathis homered in the fifth for the eventual winning run.
