SEATTLE, July 23 (UPI) -- Mike Lowell's two-run single in the top of the 12th inning Wednesday boosted the Boston Red Sox past Seattle 6-3.

Lowell's second hit of the contest followed an error by Seattle center-fielder Willie Blomquist and snapped a 3-3 tie with one out in the 12th.

The contest was tied 3-3 after nine innings because Seattle's Jose Vidro belted a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth and no other runs were scored in regulation.

Coco Crisp and Sean Casey had one RBI each while both Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis had two hits for the Red Sox, who completed a three-game sweep at Safeco Field.

The winner was Jonathan Papelbon (4-3).

Craig Hansen earned his second save.

Raul Ibanez knocked in Seattle's other run with a solo homer in the fourth.

Vidro had three hits and Jose Lopez two for the Mariners, who sank to 25 games under the .500 level (38-63.

The losing pitcher was Sean Green (2-3).
