MIAMI, July 23 (UPI) -- Tim Hudson threw six shutout innings before leaving the game with elbow soreness Wednesday, helping Atlanta defeat Florida 9-4.
The Braves also saw third baseman Chipper Jones suffer an apparent hamstring injury in the fourth inning. He grabbed his leg and grimaced in pain as he ran to first base.
Jones leads the majors with a .369 batting average.
Hudson (11-7) gave up three hits and struck out six. He left the game owning a 5-0 lead and that advantage grew to 9-0 before the Marlins came up with a four-run ninth.
Florida missed a chance to move into a tie for the lead in the National League East, remaining a game behind co-leaders New York and Philadelphia.
Gregor Blanco had four hits, drove in three runs and scored three times for the Braves. Atlanta came up with a dozen hits after managing only one against the Marlins Tuesday.
Ricky Nolasco (10-6) took the loss, surrendering five runs on eight hits in five innings.
