Chakvetadze advances in California

CARSON, Calif., July 23 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Russian Anna Chakvetadze dominated Marta Domachowska of Poland 6-1, 6-1 Tuesday in second-round action at the East West Bank Classic in California.

Sixth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia wasn't so fortunate, however, finding herself ousted by Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-2, 6-4.

Govortsova's third-round opponent will be either wild card American Bethanie Mattek or 11th-seeded Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic. Vaidisova up-ended Japan's Ayumi Morita 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-1 in a first-round match Tuesday.

In other action Tuesday, ninth-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova defeated qualifier Alina Jidkova 6-0, 6-4; 10th-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta downed Canada's Aleksandra Wozniak 6-1, 6-0; 15th-seeded Dominika Cibulkova ousted Monica Niculescu 6-4, 6-3; Russian Alla Kudryavtseva beat countrywoman Anastasia Rodiononva 7-5, 3-6, 6-3; and Russia's Regina Kulikova beat Elena Vesnina, also of Russia, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Other winners were Vania King 6-3, 6-3, over Angela Haynes; Akgul Amanmuradova 6-2, 6-2 over Jamea Jackson; Shuai Peng 6-4, 6-2 over Julie Ditty; Ai Sugiyama 6-4, 6-4 over Sabine Lisicki; Stephanie Dubois 6-2, 6-3 over Ashley Harkleroad; and Meng Yuan 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 over Kateryna Bondarenko.
