Stosur stuns Peer at East West Classic

CARSON, Calif., July 22 (UPI) -- Samantha Stosur and Melinda Czink pulled off first-round upsets Monday in the East West Bank Classic tennis tournament in Los Angeles.

Stosur routed 12th-seeded Shahar Peer 6-1, 6-1 while Czink toppled 12th-seeded Virginie Razzano 6-3, 6-3.

Two other seeded players collected straight-set first-round wins Monday. No. 14-seeded Sybille Bammer beat Ahsha Rolle 6-0, 6-4, and 16th-seeded Sania Mirza, defeated Eva Hrdinova 6-3, 6-4.

In other first-round action, Petra Kvitova beat Alisa Kleybanova 6-4, 1-6, 7-5; Marta Domachowska downed Coco Vandeweghe 6-3, 6-4; Olga Govortsova eliminated Darya Kustova 6-3, 6-4; and Bethanie Mattek ousted Abigail Spears, 6-2, 6-4.

Also, Jill Craybas beat Anne Keothavong 6-3, 6-2; Yung-Jan Chan topped Aravane Rezai 6-1, 6-4; Tamira Paszek beat Aiko Nakamura 6-4, 6-2; and Olga Savchuk beat Gisela Dulko, 6-4, 6-3.
