HOUSTON, July 22 (UPI) -- Paul Maholm allowed just one run over eight innings Tuesday to pace the Pittsburgh Pirates to an 8-2 victory over the Houston Astros.
Maholm (7-6) gave up five hits and a walk for the Pirates.
Ryan Doumit hit a three-run home run, and Freddy Sanchez had a solo home run and scored three runs.
Hunter Pence and Ty Wigginton each drove in a run for the Astros, who have lost their last three games.
Jack Cassel (1-1) suffered the loss after giving up five runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
