Few upsets in Rogers opening round

TORONTO, July 22 (UPI) -- Feliciano Lopez eliminated 11th-seeded Radek Stepanek, but all the other seeded players came away with first-round wins Monday at the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Lopez upset Stepanek 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Ninth seed Stanislas Wawrinka beat Simone Bolelli 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). No. 10 Richard Gasquet dropped Michael Llodra 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and 12th seed Tommy Robredo defeated Frederic Niemeyer 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

Fernando Gonzalez, seeded 14th, beat Julien Benneteau 6-2, 6-1 and 15th-seeded Mikhail Youzhny eliminated Andreas Seppi 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.

In other first round action, Frank Dancevic beat Mario Ancic 6-3, 6-4; Robby Ginepri dropped Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-3, 4-6, 6-4; Jose Acasuso bested Ernests Gulbis 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 7-5; Nicolas Mahut got past Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2; and Nicolas Kiefer topped Mardy Fish, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
