ASHBURN, Va., July 20 (UPI) -- Washington Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels will miss the 2008 NFL season after tearing a left knee ligament Sunday.

Later in the day, the team announced it had acquired veteran defensive end Jason Taylor from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for two draft picks.

The oft-injured Daniels, 35, was carted off the field after the first play of seven-on-seven drills. An MRI confirmed the damage to the 6-foot-5, 276-pound 13-year veteran.

Daniels was an anchor of the Redskins' defense and a well-liked team leader in the locker room.

His injury came on the first day of training camp at Ashburn, Va.

"The hard part is that (Daniels) was so ready," Coach Jim Zorn said when told of Daniels' injury. "He did everything he needed to do not only to have a good training camp, but a great season."

Another Redskins defensive end, Alex Buzbee, a second-year player, also was injured in training camp and is lost for the season.

Taylor is expected to arrive in camp Monday.

Reports have said the six-time all-pro got into hot water in Miami because General Manager Bill Parcells was not happy about his participation in the television show "Dancing with the Stars" this off-season.
