Mystics fire Coach Tree Rollins

WASHINGTON, July 19 (UPI) -- The WNBA's Washington Mystics have fired Coach Tree Rollins after a 99-62 drubbing at the hands of the Detroit Shock.

The Friday night loss -- Washington's sixth in its last eight games -- dropped the team's record to 8-14 this season, good for last place in the Eastern Conference.

Rollins' replacement on an interim basis will be assistant coach and scouting director Jessie Kenlaw.

Rollins was an assistant before replacing the fired Richie Adubato last June.

"We appreciate all of Tree's efforts on behalf of the Mystics and wish him the best in his future endeavors," said Mystics General Manager Linda Hargrove on the team's Web site. "We feel that Jessie's high energy and discipline approach to the game will inspire our team."

"I don't have the answer," Rollins told the Washington Post after Friday's loss. "If management decides to change coaches, that's what they do. I don't take that personally because I know I do my work."
