SEATTLE, July 19 (UPI) -- A grand slam homer by Raul Ibanez and a three-run shot by Jose Lopez Friday sent the Seattle Mariners coasting by Cleveland 8-2.
The Mariners prevented the Indians from capturing their fifth straight, which would have equaled their longest winning streak of the season.
Cleveland's Aaron Laffey (5-6) retired the first two batters in the second, but Seattle then loaded the bases on a single, a walk and a fielding error by shortstop Jhonny Peralta. Laffey walked Willie Bloomquist to force in a run and Ibanez followed with his grand slam, his 12th homer of the year.
Lopez hit his blast in the fourth, also off Laffey. Only three of the eight runs Laffey allowed were earned.
Felix Hernandez (7-6) benefited from the two big blows to get the victory. He gave up two runs on four hits in six innings.
