NEW YORK, July 18 (UPI) -- Welterweight boxer Edgar Santana was arrested early Friday after a federal drug bust in New York.
The New York Daily News report said that Santana, 29, was arrested at his home in New York and taken to the Special Narcotics Prosecutor's Office in Manhattan for arraignment.
The newspaper said it was told by a source within the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration that Santana was one of 12 people arrested and that agents allegedly recovered $450,000 and several kilograms of cocaine in a one-year investigation called "Operation Special Delivery."
The undisclosed source added that agents uncovered a plot to mail cocaine from Santana's native Puerto Rico to addresses in Manhattan and the Bronx.
Prosecutors say all 12 people are charged with counts related to sale and possession of cocaine.
