Richard Johnson leads PGA Tour event

MILWAUKEE, July 17 (UPI) -- Richard S. Johnson, who has made just three cuts in 11 starts this year, took the lead Thursday after one round of the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee.

Johnson made a hole in one at the par-3 14th and shot a 7-under 63 at the Brown Deer Park course. That put him one shot in front of Deane and Brenden Pappas, who in 2001 became the first brothers to advance to the PGA Tour from the Nationwide circuit.

Dean Wilson shared fourth place at 65 with Robert Garrigus and Patrick Sheehan.

Kenny Perry, who skipped the British Open to play in this event, birdied two of the final four holes and was at 67 -- tied for 17th place. Perry has won three of his last five tournaments to wrap up a spot on the Ryder Cup team.

Johnson's ace was the first at that hole since Tiger Woods made one in his professional debut in 1996.

"It's always nice to follow him in something," Johnson said.
