ST. LOUIS, July 17 (UPI) -- Troy Glaus hit two of St. Louis' four home runs Thursday and closer Ryan Franklin survived a shaky ninth to give the Cardinals a 4-3 victory over San Diego.
Glaus homered in the second to tie the game at 1-1 and then followed Rick Ankiel's home run in the fourth with his second homer of the contest, and his 17th of the season, to give St. Louis a 3-2 lead.
Joe Mather added a homer in the eighth to make it 4-2 and Franklin came on to save things in the ninth.
Franklin, however, quickly gave up a run on back-to-back doubles by Kevin Kouzmanoff and Chase Headley. A strikeout and two ground outs allowed Franklin to escape with his 13th save while handing the Padres their third straight loss.
Kyle Lohse (12-2) worked seven innings to get the win, giving up two runs on seven hits.
All four St. Louis homers came off Jake Peavy (7-6).
