AMERSFOORT, Netherlands, July 16 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Marc Gicquel and defending champion Steve Darcis advanced Wednesday to the quarterfinals of the Dutch Open tennis tournament in the Netherlands.

Gicquel took out Thiemo de Bakker, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, in second-round play and moved into Friday's quarters. He will meet Teimuraz Gabashvili, who is coming off a strong 6-4, 6-0 upset of seventh-seeded Vassallo Arguello in his second-round match.

Darcis, who collected his first ATP title at the 2007 Dutch Open, got past Alberto Martin, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5), on Wednesday.

The other second-round match Wednesday saw Christophe Rochus defeat Philipp Petzschner, 6-3, 6-4. Rochus draws Darcis in the quarterfinals.

The 2008 Dutch Open final is scheduled for Sunday, when the tournament champion will be awarded $86,000.
