Dutch Open marked by first-round upsets

AMERSFOORT, Netherlands, July 15 (UPI) -- Philipp Petzschner and Jesse Huta Galung each posted upset wins Tuesday in the first round of the Dutch Open in the Netherlands.

Petzschner dropped his first set but came back for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over sixth-seeded Florent Serra. Huta Galung, a tournament qualifier, was ahead 6-1, 1-0 in the second set when eighth-seeded Santiago Ventura retired with an ankle injury.

Fifth-seeded Albert Montanes, the only other seeded player on the court Tuesday, easily handled Kristof Vliegen 6-4, 6-2 in his first-round match.

Oscar Hernandez, Ivan Navarro, Pablo Cuevas and Edouard Roger-Vasselin also notched wins Tuesday.

Second-round play begins Wednesday with top-seeded Marc Gicquel, who had a first-round bye, taking on Dutch wild-card entrant Thiemo De Bakker in one of the highlighted matches.
