Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW YORK, July 14 (UPI) -- Chicago Fire midfielder John Thorrington was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Week Monday.
Thorrington scored the game-winning goal in the third minute of second-half stoppage time Saturday when the Fire defeated Toronto FC 2-1. The victory improved Chicago's record to 7-5-3, good for third in the Eastern Conference, nine points behind leader New England.
This is Thorrington's first Player of the Week selection and Chicago's second Player of the Week award this season. Cuauhtemoc Blanco was named in Week 9.
