KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 13 (UPI) -- Adrian Beltre scored the go-ahead run on an error in the ninth inning Sunday and the Seattle Mariners held on to edge Kansas City 4-3.
Beltre reached base on a double, went to third on a bunt and was trapped between second and third when Willie Bloomquist grounded to the pitcher. John Buck's throwing error during the rundown allowed Beltre to escape and score the decisive run.
Jeff Clement hit a two-run homer for the Mariners, who had lost six of their seven previous games.
Sean Green (2-2) pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and picked up the win.
Mike Aviles drove in two runs for the Royals.
Joakim Soria (1-2), who gave up the run in the ninth, was the loser.
