
PITTSBURGH, July 12 (UPI) -- Jason Michaels hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 12-11 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Troy Glaus homered off Denny Bautista (3-2) to give the Cards a one-run lead in the 10th but Raul Chavez led off the home 10th with a single and then Michaels hit the game-winning homer.
Jason Bay had two home runs and five RBI, Nate McLouth a three-run homer and Adam LaRoche a solo homer for the Pirates.
Starter Yoslan Herrera, who made his major-league debut in place of the injured Phil Dumatrait, lasted 4 1/3 innings and gave up six runs on 11 hits.
Ryan Ludwick had a two-run homer and a triple for the Cardinals, who had 22 hits.
Chris Perez (2-1) was charged with a blown save and the loss after he gave up the home run in the 10th.
