Former Yankees outfielder dies at 62

NEW YORK, July 12 (UPI) -- Former New York Yankees outfielder and broadcaster Bobby Murcer died of brain cancer Saturday at age 62.

Murcer was diagnosed with brain cancer on Christmas Eve 2006. Later tests revealed the tumor to be malignant. He died in Oklahoma City.

Murcer, a lifetime .277 hitter, had 252 home runs and 1,043 RBI in 1,908 major league games with the Yankees, San Francisco and Chicago Cubs during 17 seasons in the major leagues.

For most of the last 24 seasons, Murcer worked with the Yankees as a broadcaster.
