Wawrinka wins, Youzhny falls in Swiss Open

GSTAAD, Switzerland, July 11 (UPI) -- Switzerland's top-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka made it to the semifinals but No. 3 Mikhail Youzhny was toppled Friday in the Swiss Open clay-court tournament.

Wawrinka rallied to defeat eighth-seeded Guillermo Canas of Argentina, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez eliminated Youzhny, of Russia, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

In other matches, Romanian Victor Hanescu eliminated French qualifier Jeremy Chardy, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), and Russia's Igor Andreev beat Croat Marin Cilic, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Wawrinka plays Hanescu and Garcia-Lopez meets Andreev in the semifinals Saturday.
