Spaniard wins Tour de France 7th stage

AURILLAC, France, July 11 (UPI) -- Spaniard Luis-Leon Sanchez won Stage 7 of the Tour de France Friday, six seconds ahead of Germany's Stefan Schumacher.

Sanchez finished a 159-kilometer (99-mile) run from Brioude to Aurillac in three hours and 52 seconds for the first stage victory of his career.

Filippo Pozzato of Italy placed third and Luxembourg's Kim Kirchen, the overall race leader, placed fourth.

Kirchen stayed six seconds in front of Cadel Evans of Australia in the race standings.

The eighth stage Saturday covers 172.5 kilometers (107 miles) from Figeac to Toulouse.
