Chicago boxer dies in first title fight

PALERMO, Italy, July 11 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta romped into the Palermo International semifinals Friday with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Georgian qualifier Margalite Chakhnashvili.
Pennetta will next take on countrywoman Sara Errani, the fifth seed, who advanced when her opponent, Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro, quit because of a finger injury.
Second-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues, a four-time winner of the tournament, defeated Italian Tathiana Garbin 6-0, 3-6, 6-0 to move into the semis.
Medina Garrigues will go against Ukrainian Mariya Koryttseva, who ousted Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
