CARSON, Calif., July 11 (UPI) -- David Beckham set up Edson Buddle for the tying goal in the 72nd minute Thursday and Los Angeles escaped with a 1-1 draw against Chivas USA in MLS play.

In an end-to-end battle with lots of scoring chances, the teams remained tied at the top of the Western Conference with 22 points.

Ante Razov scored for Chivas in the 15th minute and Buddle tied it with his 11th goal of the season. Beckham's assist was his seventh of the year.

With time winding down, Razov's point-blank header was batted away by Los Angeles goalkeeper Steve Cronin. Carlos Ruiz then had a great chance to give the Galaxy the win, but his shot was kicked aside by Chivas' Brad Guzman.
