Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NASHVILLE, July 11 (UPI) -- Helio Castroneves won the pole Friday for Saturday's running of the Firestone Indy 200 at the Nashville Superspeedway.
It was the 24th pole of Castroneves' IndyCar career, but his first of 2008. He has won at least one pole in each of the last seven seasons.
Castroneves turned in a four-lap effort of one minute, 31.5320 seconds -- or 204.519 mph. His top qualifying time came one week after mechanical problems left him unable to attempt to qualify in Watkins Glen, N.Y. As a result, he had to start at the back of the field.
Qualifying second Friday was Danica Patrick, who was timed in 203.335 mph.
Hideki Mutoh and Ryan Hunter-Reay will make up the second row. Championship points leader Scott Dixon will start fifth.
