WASHINGTON, July 9 (UPI) -- John Lannan and three relievers combined on a three-hitter Wednesday in helping Washington halt a six-game losing streak with a 5-0 win over Arizona.
Lannan (5-9) picked up his first win since May 18. He allowed two hits and walked three, after which Joel Hanrahan, Luis Ayala and Jon Rauch worked an inning each.
The Diamondbacks lost for the fifth time in eight games and again fell below the .500 mark while clinging to the lead in the National League West. Arizona began the evening a game in front of Los Angeles.
Jesus Flores provided the key blow for the Nationals, a pinch-hit, three-run homer as part of a four-run sixth. Kory Casto knocked in the other two runs.
The loss went to Micah Owings (6-8), who gave up only one hit in 5 2/2 innings but who walked five and hit three other batters.
