Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Braves scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings Tuesday and coasted to a 9-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Braves' offense was fueled by Yunel Escobar's three RBI, a pair of solo homers by Brian McCann and another homer by Mark Teixeira.
The Dodgers managed just one run off Atlanta starter Jair Jurrgens, who improved to 9-4 by striking out six and scattering five hits and three walks. They added two more runs off reliever Julian Tavarez, who pitched one-third of an inning after signing with the Braves earlier in the day.
Chad Billingsley (8-8) allowed six runs -- five earned -- on six hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out eight.
