
OAKLAND, Calif., July 8 (UPI) -- Wes Bankston hit his first MLB homer and Ryan Sweeney drove in the go-ahead run with a fifth-inning single Monday night, when the Oakland A's beat Seattle 4-3.
Mark Ellis also drove in a run for Oakland, which had lost two straight coming into the contest.
Despite the loss, the Mariners have still won 10 of their last 12 games at Oakland.
Dana Eveland (7-5) picked up the win, giving up nine hits -- including Richie Sexson's three-run, first-inning homer -- with four walks in 5 1/3 innings.
Huston Street came on in the ninth to record his 17th save for the Athletics.
Jarrod Washburn (4-8) took the loss despite throwing a complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out five for Seattle.
Adrian Beltre had four hits for the Mariners, who were beaten 2-1 in 15 innings by Detroit Sunday.
