
ARLINGTON, Texas, July 7 (UPI) -- Vladimir Guerrero and Torii Hunter homered in a six-run second inning Monday to power the Los Angeles Angels to a 9-6 win over the Texas Rangers.
Hunter had three hits, including two homers, and three RBI. Guerrero and Jeff Mathis each hit two-run homers during the second-inning outburst, when the Angels built an 8-0 lead.
Maicer Izturis had two hits, an RBI and scored twice for the AL West-leading Angels, who won for the fifth time in six games.
Starter Ervin Santana (10-3) allowed six runs and 10 hits.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched out of trouble in the ninth inning for his 35th save, the most saves ever in the majors prior to the all-star break.
David Murphy had a three-run homer and Chris Davis added a two-run homer for the Rangers. Ian Kinsler extended his hitting streak to 19 games, going 4-for-5.
Luis Mendoza (1-3) gave up eight runs and nine hits over 1 1/3 innings to take the loss.
