KENT, England, July 6 (UPI) -- Ross Fisher shot 4-under-par 68 Sunday, winning the European Open golf tournament by seven strokes over runner-up Sergio Garcia.

The native of Ascot, England, began the European Tour event Thursday with a record 9-under 63 and became a wire-to-wire winner on a day filled with rain and sometimes heavy winds in Kent, England. His winning total was 20-under 268.

Sunday's 68 helped Fisher increase his three-shot advantage when the fourth round started. His closing round was highlighted by three birdies on the back nine and an eagle at the fifth hole. The eagle offset a bogey at the par-4 second.

"It was just a very tricky day," the 27-year-old Fisher said after his second European tournament victory. "(But) I'm delighted. It was a great week."

Garcia's 6-under 66 was the day's lowest score and helped the Spaniard move up from a tie for seventh place overnight into the runner-up position at 13-under 275.
