SEATTLE, July 6 (UPI) -- Marcus Thames drove in the go-ahead run with a 15th-inning sacrifice fly Sunday and the Detroit Tigers held on to beat Seattle 2-1.

The Mariners depleted their bullpen during the marathon so Jamie Burke, who came into the game as a catcher in the ninth inning, was pressed into service on the mound. He served up a lead-off double to Miguel Cabrera, and then threw a wild pitch that allowed pinch-runner Mike Hollimon to reach third.

Hollimon scored on Thames' fly ball to left, putting the Tigers up 2-1.

Burke (0-1) got the side out after that but Detroit closer Todd Jones set the Mariners down in order in the bottom of the 15th to preserve the victory and get his 16th save.

Ryan Raburn led off the fifth with a homer for Detroit, which had lost two straight but salvaged a split of the four-game series. Ivan Rodriguez had four of the Tigers' eight hits.

Aquilino Lopez (3-1) got the win in relief of Detroit starter Nate Robertson, who gave up just one run and four hits in nine innings.

Yuniesky Betancourt drove in Seattle's only run with a third-inning double. The loss was Seattle's third in their last 10 games.
