MLB: Arizona 3, San Diego 2

PHOENIX, July 6 (UPI) -- Arizona's Randy Johnson held San Diego to a run and three hits over 6 1/3 innings Sunday and the Diamondbacks edged the Padres 3-2.

The veteran left-hander, who had lost his six previous starts, struck out 10 batters, clamping down on the Padres after giving up a leadoff home run to Scott Hairston.

Johnson (5-7) left with a 3-1 lead and relievers Chad Qualls and Brandon Lyon preserved the win, with Lyon getting his 18th save.

Justin Upton and Mark Reynolds hit solo home runs and Stephen Drew knocked in the third run with a single for Arizona, which had dropped four of its previous five games.

Losing pitcher Josh Banks (2-4) worked six innings, allowing three runs and seven hits.
