Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DETROIT, Minn., June 29 (UPI) -- Dane Sardinha's first major league hit, a two-run triple, helped Detroit edge the struggling Colorado Rockies 4-3 Sunday for the Tigers' fifth straight win.
Detroit is now over .500, at 41-40, for the first time in a season that began with a seven-game losing streak.
Marcus Thames batted 3-for-4, drove in a run and scored another for the Tigers.
Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run homer for the Rockies, who have dropped seven games in a row.
Kenny Rogers (6-5) got the win, giving up three runs and eight hits over six innings.
The loser, Greg Reynolds (2-6), lasted 5 2/3 innings, yielding four runs and 10 hits.
