EUGENE, Ore., June 29 (UPI) -- Tyson Gay ran 100 meters in a wind-aided 9.68 seconds Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field trials in Eugene, Ore.

Gay's time would have been a world record if not for the wind, officials said.

Walter Dix placed second at 9.80 seconds and David Patton third at 9.84.

Gay, Dix and Patton all qualified for the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Tiffany Ross-Williams, Queen Harrison and Sheena Tosta qualified in the 400-meter hurdles.

Derek Miles, Jeff Hartwig and Brad Walker qualified in the pole vault.

Also gaining Olympic berths were Aretha Thurmond, Suzy Powell-Roos and Stephanie Brown Trafton in the women's discus and Bershawn Jackson, Kerron Clement and Angelo Taylor in the men's 400-meter hurdles.

Shani Marks and Erica McLain qualified for Beijing in the women's triple jump.
