COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 28 (UPI) -- Nigerian midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo had the game-winning goal and an assist Saturday to lead the Columbus Crew to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids.

Ekpo's goal was the 20-year-old's first in a Major League Soccer uniform.

The Crew (8-4-2) got the game's first goal in the 53rd minute when Ekpo sprung forward Alejandro Moreno in the Rapids' penalty area. Moreno cut past two defenders before being taken down by the second, earning a penalty kick call from referee Baldomero Toledo.

Gillermo Barros Schelotto froze Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul with a shot to the left side-netting for his third goal of the season.

Nick LaBrocca tied the score for Colorado (5-8-1) less than 10 minutes later when he took a pass from Conor Casey at the top of the Crew 18-yard box and blasted a shot low between the far post and the fingertips of goalie Will Hesmer.

Ekpo scored the winning goal with 20 minutes left in the game.
