KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 28 (UPI) -- Mitchell Boggs gave up an earned run and four hits in six innings Saturday to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-1 win over the Kansas City Royals.
Boggs (3-0) walked four batters and struck out six to help St. Louis beat Kansas City for the first time in five tries this season.
Rick Ankiel hit a two-run homer in the sixth. Designated hitter Chris Duncan had one RBI and two runs scored on Kansas City errors.
Seven players had one hit for the Cardinals, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Kansas City scored its run on Ross Gload's seventh inning double. Mike Aviles had two of the five hits for the Royals, who had won six straight and 11 of their previous 12 games, all against National League opponents.
David DeJesus extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Losing pitcher Kyle Davies (3-1) yielded five runs -- three earned -- and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.
