NEW YORK, June 28 (UPI) -- Sidney Ponson and three relievers combined to throw a shutout Friday despite allowing 12 base runners in the New York Yankees' 9-0 win over the New York Mets.
The teams split a day-night doubleheader after the Mets had overwhelmed the Yankees in the afternoon 15-6, in a game played at Yankee Stadium -- a make-up game from a May 16 rain-out.
Ponson (5-1) gave up five hits and walked four over six innings to get the win.
Kyle Farnsworth, Jose Veras and Kei Igawa threw an inning each and teamed to give up three hits with two walks. Igawa was activated between games.
Robinson Cano drove in a run in the fourth with a ground out, another in the fifth with a sacrifice fly and one more in the seventh with a solo homer, his seventh of the season.
Pedro Martinez (2-2) took the loss, giving up six hits and six runs in 5 2/3 innings.
