WASHINGTON, June 25 (UPI) -- A one-out single in the ninth by Jesus Flores delivered Elijah Dukes from second Wednesday, giving Washington a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels had won five in a row and failed in their bid for a second straight road sweep.
Los Angeles tied the game with two runs in the eighth, but Scot Shields (3-2) gave up the winning run during his second inning of work.
Dukes singled to open the ninth and he went to second on a groundout by Lastings Milledge. Flores, who had been hitless in his first four at-bats, then singled to right on a 2-1 pitch.
That made a winner out of Jon Rauch (4-1), who retired the last five Angels in order.
Milledge gave the Nationals the lead in the first with a two-run homer. After the Angels came back to tie it, Washington took a 4-2 advantage in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to Ronnie Belliard and an RBI single from Wily Mo Pena.
