HOUSTON, June 25 (UPI) -- Max Ramirez collected the first two hits of his major league career Wednesday, one of them a go-ahead homer that brought Texas a 3-2 victory over Houston.
C.J. Wilson survived a bases-loaded jam in the ninth for his 16th save, boosting the Rangers a game over .500.
Ramirez had been hitting .360 with 17 home runs in Class AA when he was called up this week. After going hitless Tuesday, he came through with a two-run homer in the fourth for the final runs of the game.
Reliever Luis Mendoza (1-2) got the win by working three scoreless innings. The loss went to Roy Oswalt (6-8), who gave up all three runs on seven hits in seven innings.
Texas protected its 3-2 lead into the ninth, but barely hung on with the inconsistent Wilson on the mound.
Ty Wiggington doubled to open the ninth, after which Brad Ausmus flew out and Geoff Blum struck out.
Michael Bourn, who hit a two-run homer in the second inning, kept the ninth alive by walking and third baseman Ramon Vazquez bobbled a Mark Loretta grounder to load the bases. Miguel Tejada, however, grounded into a fielder's choice to end the game.
