NEW YORK, June 25 (UPI) -- David Wright homered in his first two trips to the plate Wednesday, boosting the New York Mets to an 8-2 inter-league decision over Seattle.

The Mets avoided a three-game sweep by scoring eight runs over the first three innings.

Wright had played every inning of every game this season before being given a rest in Tuesday's 11-0 loss. He had produced just two hits in 13 at-bats in his four previous appearances.

That slump ended when he hit a solo homer as part of a two-run first and he then blasted a two-run shot in the second, running his total for the year to 14.

The Mets broke it open with a four-run third that included a three-run homer from Jose Reyes.

John Maine (8-5) coasted to the win, giving up two runs on five hits over six innings.

Seattle was coming off its first two-game winning streak in almost a month. The loss went to Miguel Batista (3-10), who was roughed up for eight runs on five hits in 2 2/3. It was his first start since June 7. Batista filled in for Erik Bedard, the scheduled starter who was held out with back spasms.
